After nine attempts and five medals Gary Hand finally took the big one to win Gold at the Scottish Road Race Championships. Held near to The Granite City of Aberdeen around The Coreen Hills, starting from Alford and taking in two and a half large 39 mile laps to include Auchleven, Insch, Kennethmont, Rhynnie and Mossat and then on to a final smaller finishing circuit through Leslie, the race had one final sting in the tail up the mile long Sueey climb with parts reaching a 20% gradient, elevating the riders above pine woodlands and past ancient standing stones, it truly was a monumental battle and on a beautiful sunny Spring afternoon it really was going to be a race to remember.
