Jamie Shirlaw yesterday won for the second year the Shefrec Spring Road Race now promoted by the newly formed Yorkshire Road Race League, Getting in a break with team mate Tommy Bustard and five others the break away established a gap of 52″ when they were pursued by a chase group of ten riders including National Criterium Grham Briggs and National Hill Climb champion Gunar Gronlund and former Premier Calendar series winner Rob Sharman and Jack Cutsforth.
With two laps to go the gap had decreased to only 22″. On the approach to the line Jamie timed his sprint to perfection taking the win with Tommy coming in sixth. Jack Cutsforth using the advantage of being in the chase group but with a team mate up the road broke clear of the chase group on the final lap to take 9th place.
